As some of you know, I lurk on the forums and go to some of the runs, but, I never drive. My reason for that is 4x2 pickup trucks really don't care for mud. But the other day, I picked up another truck that will finally allow me to join you.

It's an 1989 Ford F250, 4x4, 302 (5.0), 5spd. It's got 150k on the body and 46k on engine rebuild. When the engine was rebuilt, everything was put in new, except the crank. The heads were ported and polished and a different cam was put in. I don't know all the technical lingo, but the cam gives it better pulling power, I don't know what type it would be considered. Everything else in the motor is brand new. When the engine was pulled a new clutch was installed. It's got Dana 44 in the front and a Dana 60 in the back. The truck is a tank.

The bed on the truck is about shot, so I just slapped some bondo and a coat of red rattle can paint on there for it to pass inspection. :wt:

The pictures are before we slapped the bondo and paint on it.

Dave (DarkPrinceFang) striking a pose. The truck is almost taller than him, ha!

5.slow!

Rollin' like a big shot!

Passenger Side

Overall, the truck isn't in bad shape. It runs like a dream. Someone tried to steal the truck from the previous owner so the ignition is broke. So he ran two wires so you can jump the celenoid from inside the cab. (Yet again...):wt:. The title is clean. It's never been wrecked. All the body panels are straight. The interior is spotless, there's just a small oil stain on the passenger floor.

I paid $350 bucks for it. How do you think I did?

Well I dropped my 2.5" RC lift on a few weeks back. Had some bad death wobble. So I reset my toe in to a shade under 3/16ths and re-torqed my LCA and track bar bolts.
And it went from starting "oh shit oh shit..." at 46mph and leaving after coming to near a dead stop. Too feeling a little "meh.." vibes/wobble at 53mph. But today I hit 47 and its "holy goose fraking shit!...." when I was coming up university blv.

One of the guys at work suggested new control arms bushings and it seams 4wd hardware has a prothane polyurethane set for $59 but then I've heard polyurethane bushings squeak, and ride rough.
http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.as...71&partID=3967

and was probably going to so the track bar bushings aswell

http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.as...77&partID=3787

Has anybody used these?

Also as a side note, if you can put autocad in the image for your computers do it.
17 DVDs * 48 computers = epic north korean donkey suck.

So what is the best way to deal with these spots? Both shock areas, and under the shock mount on one side. You can see where the previous owner patched the rearmost section, and apparently sucked at welding.

So I dont really have a build thread for this thing yet, and didnt know exactly what direction I wanted to take my build.

Well after some...

So I dont really have a build thread for this thing yet, and didnt know exactly what direction I wanted to take my build.

Well after some searchin around and tossin around a million ideas I finally decided what I wanted to do. The Adventure XJ thread on NAXJA is what has inspired me. So it took me FOREVER to decide just how i wanted my lift and tire setup to be but i finally decided on that too.

So lets start: 89 XJ 231 aw4 2 door 155k

Lift: RE 3.5 Superflex

Tires: 33x10.50x15 BFG KM2

Add ons: 98 8.25 rear with aussie locker (have 3.55's btw)

Prolly go with rustys cut out flares so i can get an offset wheel and widen the stance a bit and still have coverage for PA laws.

This will essentially cover that part of my build.

Next will be setting up the inside and outside for camping/hiking/long road trips

I will be removing the back seat. well, folding down the back rest and removing the bottom of the seat so it lays flat. Ill keep the front seat for Lindsey :021:

Ill be measuring in and out for storage. I plan on making the inside as easily accessable as possible. Ideas on how to set it up will be appreciated and ill throw out ideas as well when i come to them. Ill probably build storage from wood and try and have a drawer setup coming out the back. Id like to do 2 levels. bottom level be a drawer with tools, spare shafts, that sort of thing. top shelf be a flip open front and be able to store additional tools, miscellaneous items there. this whole set up would take the back half of the space. then i want to use the front half of the space for camping stuff. Cooler, and anything that I dont want in the elements(clothes, tp, towels, electronics, tent or tentcot, etc) Up top Ill have a rack. Spare tire would be going there. I know there are mixed opinions on this, but It will make the best use of my space. I might even put the cooler there too, but i dont want to be lifting that all over the place and worry about it being beat up or sloshing everything out. depending on how high I make the back storage space I might even make it where the cooler will be on top. measurements will be needed for this. This is a start for me and will give me plenty to do. having an idea of what direction I want to go in helps me tremendously in planning for the right stuff, and not doing things I dont need. (minus the 231/300 doubler that Ill do sometime next year haha)

I think that covers the start.

so, let the opinions and Ideas flow.

Well broke a front shock yesterday at 7:00 going to get some sheetz, so rerouted to advance and got a spring compressor(it sucked BTW ended up using a ratchet strap)

So started putting on the 2.5" rough country springs/shocks at 8pm and two cans of that stuff that makes 10 year old rusted bolts loose (you know that stuff) half a bottle of Mapp, getting yelled at by the white trash neighbors that I'm making to much noise with the impact at 2am. :108: (whats their problem) taking off the lower controll arms, using a strap and a winch to pull the axle forward to get the lower controll arsm back in. And enought gravel and dirt shoved down my pants to last me a life time.

I got the front coils, shocks, and steering stabilizer at 3:36am today!
So dirty have gloves on so I dont gunk up my laptop.

So only the rear end to finish when ever I wake up tomorrow...err...today
I was thinking about going with a www.gotpropane.com injection kit. They say they will work at any angle and keep your oil and engine cleaner than running gasoline. As I have a carb yota 22r it would be an option vs. going 22re and having to go through all the computer and intake swap B.S. They make a complete kit for around $800 and I could get rid of that dam gas tank under the rear of the ride.
