So my tranny is ok but mud is not...(w/pics)

We took redxj96 and his family to find some mud.
    He found some.

    and so did I.

It was pretty deep. I had a good 2 inches of water on the floorboards after coming out.

What happened from all of this? My radiator fan relay fuse blew. Then it overheated the motor as well as my tranny since I had no fan. That in turn fried my pressure solenoid and pressure sensor in my tranny. That leaves me with a bad 1st gear and no O/D. Huge thanks to redxj96 for helping me out and sticking around until I got home. His wife as well as she got my family home in time for bedtime and then made her 4 hour trip home late at night.

So now I have to save my pennies to change the oil and filter. Change the ATF and filter. Buy and change the solenoid and sensor. Buy and replace the fan fuse. Hope that solves all my problems with my tranny!

But at least I dont believe I will need a rebuild.

Even with the mud in the pics, you can see that it's a ballsy call going through that without a winch and mudders. I think you could call that more of a pond than mud. I did some wheeling over the weekend and went around stuff that was similar to that simply because I don't have a winch and didn't feel like the hassle of being pulled out. Annnddd... I had nice shoes on. Haha.

Why go four wheeling if you drive around everything? Someone has to go through it first.

I usually prod them with a stick. I dont worry about getting the interior dirty or wet. I worry about getting stuck. I had a winch with me so I had no fear.

Had I realized the fuse was blown and the fan was not working it would have never overheated and fried the tranny electronics. It was running slightly warm as usual and i left it idling to go help hook up RedXj96's winch for him. I turned on the A/C to turn the fan on. When I got back to it all hell was breaking loose.

In all the mud and water I have ever been in, this is the first major problem I have ever had from it.

My buddy had a winch and I have M/T's on.

Again why wheel if you go around everything?

We (the wife and I) have visited this area before with only our stock Jeeps and we go around them. Since we had a winch this time I tried it and made it.

I enjoy playing in the mud

I just despise dealing with the aftermath so badly that I avoid the mud in the first place

    Is this proof enough.

    Guess who is driving...hint...not me.

So, any way, a week or so later...this happens.

I had a strap in the back too. Only problem, didn't prevent it from steering on it's own. It was only to get it on the flatbed. it didn't need to go far.

A properly vented auto has its place in an offroader thats regularly used in the mud, never seen a clutch deal with mud well yet

Wasn't my doing. Neither of my vehicles would see more than your shallow mud puddle in the middle of a trail. But yeah, the clutch now has about 1" of peddle travel left before it catchs. I am hoping that it's not totally gone and just needs a good hosing out.

mud bringeth the suck... sure it's fun at first... then comes the rot...and burned up trannies and clutches from being caked with it... and never being able to get it clean no matter what... overheating engines... hydrolocked engines... no thank you...

FYI -- For what its worth, I should mention that the 42RE will go into "default" mode if any codes are thrown. Default mode put the tranny into 3rd by default, and allows manual shifting only into 2nd or R. So, you may or may not have "lost" 1st and overdrive, in the traditional sense.

Even a bad sensor can throw a code and put the 42RE into default mode.

I discovered all this within the last 24 hours, because I'm in a similar predicament. You can get the codes by using the key on-off trick on earlier ZJs. They'll flash on the Overdrive lockout button's LED.

55 is no codes, all others are 1x or 2x.
